YARDARM: From Encyclopedia of Sailing

The outer quarters of the 'yard', that part which lies outboard of the square sail yard lift on either port or starboard side.

'The sun over the yardarm' is a traditional saying from the years of Tall Ships to indicate it is time for a morning drink. The direction of the sun in Northern latitudes at 11am or thereabouts was the signal for the officers to slip below deck to enjoy their first drink of the day.
